Auckland Council

Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Ward
The Auckland Council makes strategic decisions for Auckland on public transport, urban planning, environmental protection and other big issues. The council provides funding to local boards to provide public services in their areas, and manages council-controlled organisations which provide infrastructure, such as public transport, water and sewerage. The councillors and mayor make up the governing body, which shares governance of Auckland Council with the 21 local boards. The governing body is made up of 20 councillors plus the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in Auckland). One councillor will be elected from your ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Auckland Council election.

Why I'm standing

I live in Mt Wellington with my wife and three children. I'm a community stalwart at heart, volunteering for local community patrols/resident associations and serving as a local board deputy chair. I've advocated for substantial local projects, including Colin Maiden Precinct/Michaels Ave Park/Liston Park upgrades, and successfully campaigned against Auckland Transport's senseless projects. I am standing as I believe council needs experience like mine to help fix many of its problems.

About me

I bring a wealth of corporate and managerial experience, having owned and led several award-winning businesses in the telecommunication and fitness industries. Council must stop focusing on the latest fads and instead focus on issues that matter: common sense transport and housing solutions, tackling crime and careful spending of your rates. My business acumen will help me with a focus on council spending and my governance experience will help me with current council systems and issues.

My priorities
  1. Responsible spending of your rates: we need more financially/fiscally responsible councillors.
  2. Common sense approach to transport: let's not focus on demonising the car driver.
  3. Work to address crime and safety: better lighting and cameras in safety spots throughout Auckland.
