Mayor of Auckland

The Auckland Mayor leads the governing body of Auckland Council. The mayor’s job is to promote a vision for Auckland and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Auckland Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I am motivated to lead Auckland through the significant challenges ahead such as climate change, economic headwinds, a declining sense of safety, and an increasing amount of people left behind unable to use the opportunities this city provides. I want to leave a legacy for my children and yours of a city that faced its challenges, celebrated and embraced its strengths and remained as desirable as ever for residents and visitors.

About me

I was born and raised in Auckland and this city has shaped me as an individual and a leader. I am an experienced local government representative and know how council works, so I don't make empty or reckless promises. I work across the political spectrum and plan to be a mayor for all Aucklanders and not just for my supporters. My key values are courage, care and collaboration.

My priorities
  1. Support free public transport to remove cost as a barrier and to meet our climate commitments.
  2. Support better quality and affordable housing for our workers, families and vulnerable communities.
  3. Support a safe city so people can enjoy our beautiful amenities and public places without fear.
