Auckland Council

Whau Ward
The Auckland Council makes strategic decisions for Auckland on public transport, urban planning, environmental protection and other big issues. The council provides funding to local boards to provide public services in their areas, and manages council-controlled organisations which provide infrastructure, such as public transport, water and sewerage. The councillors and mayor make up the governing body, which shares governance of Auckland Council with the 21 local boards. The governing body is made up of 20 councillors plus the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in Auckland). One councillor will be elected from your ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Auckland Council election.

Why I'm standing

My motivation to stand is because I believe Auckland Tāmaki Makaurau is one of the most beautiful cities in the world that should have world class services such as an efficient transport system so we can get around the city easily, clean beaches and waterways for our tamariki to play in and access to great community facilities, thriving businesses and arts. We have talented musicians and artists that we should all enjoy.

About me

I have experience running community organisations. I was previously the co-chair of Violent Free Communities, founder of charitable organisation Mana Aroha providing global opportunities for youth and I have run my own consultancy company in the UK for over 10 years. I have previously been a deputy Chair of a local board so have the local government experience. I am a mother of five year old twins.

My priorities
  1. Advocate for a pool in Whau – partnering with a private company and for council to lease it.
  2. Initiate the Community Hub in Avondale. The consultation has been over 10 years. Urgently needed.
  3. Clean up Whau River and increase tree canopy towards 30%, prioritise parks and green spaces.
