Environment Canterbury
Environment Canterbury is the regional council for Canterbury. It makes decisions about managing resources in the region, such as air, water, soil and the coastline. It also carries out plant and pest control, helps prepare for natural disasters, and is involved in regional transport. The council is made up of up to 16 councillors. 14 councillors are elected to represent constituencies (areas in the region), including two councillors from the Mid-Canterbury/Ōpākihi constituency. Up to two councillors can be appointed by Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing
The Mid Canterbury community has asked me to stand again to represent their interests. Having a long history of serving my community, especially advocating in the area of the environment and water management they tell me they trust me to represent them.
About me
I'm a local fifth-generation Cantabrian, who knows the region and in particular the Ashburton and Selwyn districts very well, with extensive governance, scientific and financial management skills and have already served three years as a regional councillor.
My priorities
- Continue the review of how we manage our catchments with particular focus on flood management.
- Ensure financial probity, accountability and cost benefit analysis for spending our ratepayers money.
- Continue the investment in improving water quality and environmental stewardship across the region.
