Mayor of Invercargill

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the city and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Invercargill City Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I'm running for mayor as I believe our city needs a greater focus on leadership of the elected members and to empower the wishes of ratepayers. I also believe we have lost sight of our closed museum and the disability workers at the recycling plants whose jobs could be at risk.

About me

I am a good voice for ratepayers as I have led the local ratepayers group for two terms, which gives me community feedback from a wide range of the community. I've also spent most of my life managing both government and non government social services agencies. This gives me knowledge of those who struggle the most with life and how actions impact on their families.

My priorities
  1. Build and open a new museum. This can be done cheaper and quicker than the current planning.
  2. Secure the jobs of the 40 disability workers at recycling plant – they have few options elsewhere.
  3. Oppose the government Three Waters reform. We have done well to date so should not subsidise those who haven't.
