Mayor of Kāpiti Coast

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Kāpiti Coast District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I am passionate about my community. I believe that this work is Important. I am concerned with the amount of reform that central government is pushing onto us and what local government will look like afterwards. Strong advocacy will be critical. People in our community are busy with day-to-day living and should have quality representation. I have made the decision to step up and lead a team to serve our community.

About me

I am a first-term councillor, I am committed to the part-time role full time to learn what needed to be learnt as quickly as possible to make me a useful asset to my community serving at the council table. I care, listen and deliver. I have 35 years experience in hospitality, a people industry, and have strengths in management, team building, business development with a skill set I can and am transferring into this role.

My priorities
  1. Building a strong constructive relationship with the new chief executive, this relationship is vital to success.
  2. Building a team of councillors to serve Kāpiti that are connected, supported and empowered.
  3. Developing relationships and connectivity to regional/central government to maximise opportunity for Kāpiti.
