Mayor of Tararua

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Tararua District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

This will be my third term and time to bring all the previous work together. Under my leadership we've moved to a more strategic focus. I want to see the job finished, including the new Manawatū Tararua Highway, Route 52 upgrade, wastewater compliance, repair of Dannevirke impounded supply and importantly the finalisation of our growth strategy. The inevitable change in the future of local government excites me and I'm up for the challenge.

About me

I bring balanced and inclusive leadership that enables our people to work smarter and work together – both on council, within the community, and across the wider region. Experienced in the agriculture sector, I understand what makes our economy and communities tick, additionally bringing my environmental experience to the table and understanding the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead of us driven by our changing climate.

My priorities
  1. Delivering a plan addressing our changing population and corresponding demands in our towns.
  2. Ensuring our people have access to suitable housing.
  3. Communicating well, our need to adapt to the future of Local Government New Zealand demands and what this looks like.
