Waikato Regional Council

Thames-Coromandel General Constituency
The Waikato Regional Council makes decisions about managing resources in the region, such as air, water, soil and the coastline. It also carries out plant and pest control, helps prepare for natural disasters, and is involved in regional transport. The council is made up of 14 councillors. Councillors are elected to represent constituencies (areas in the region). One councillor will be elected from the Thames-Coromandel constituency. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing

I am standing for re-election as Thames Coromandel representative on Waikato Regional Council because I'm deeply concerned about the cost of living, the housing crisis, and accessible public transport. Our aged community needs more support. We need stronger action to halve our emissions by 2030. Many of our rivers are unswimmable and in a state of ecological collapse. I have influenced substantial progress on these issues but we need more ambitious action.

About me

I get stuff done. I have made substantial progress on rate control, water quality, public transport, economic development and climate change. With your vote, I can build on this great momentum. Thames has been my home for 48 years, and I was a law professional for 45 years. I ask the hard questions, hold agencies and officials to account, and determinedly pursue practical solutions. I have a long track record of advocacy and activism.

My priorities
  1. Efficient (small) bus links within and between Thames Coromandel towns.
  2. Keeping Thames Coromandel rivers and beaches swimmable and supporting local restoration groups.
  3. Strong climate action with buy-in from public and all sectors. Coastal hazards fully understood.
