Waitaki District Council

Oamaru Ward
The Waitaki District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 10 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Six councillors will be elected from the Oamaru ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing

I'm running for council to ensure our kids grow up in a district which retains all of its great qualities – its green spaces, its historic character and its sense of community – while building an adaptive and resilient community which we can all be proud of and is prepared for the changes ahead of us.

About me

I have knowledge of natural systems, good financial literacy and acumen and a wide range of interests. I can relate and converse easily with others on a multitude of subjects. I care about the welfare and wellbeing of others in our community. I am analytical, ask why and am always focused on understanding key drivers and inner workings of organisations and businesses. I believe people and culture are tantamount to success first and foremost.

My priorities
  1. Achieve acceptable and much improved outcomes for health services via the transition into Health NZ.
  2. Voice my concerns regarding generic zoning of medium density housing across a wide area of Oamaru.
  3. Push for economic metrics currently missed but are key drivers of social wellbeing.
