Wellington City Council
The Wellington City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 15 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the city). Three councillors will be elected from the Takapū/Northern ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing
The next three years will have the council facing many decisions that have uncomfortable choices that will be very unpopular no matter the choice. I want to provide the voice and viewpoint of someone who will still be here 40 years from now and is encouraged to make choices for that timeframe and afterwards.
About me
I have over a decade of experience in multiple organisations identifying improvements and then working with many groups to get those changes implemented. Council is not some small small two-person business that can change in a day. It is a large organisation that takes time and effort to change. This is something that I have experience with.
My priorities
- Making the cost of living sensible as without people there is no city, community, or economy.
- Transition away from fossil fuel use to minimise our impact on the environment.
- Release more information about council contracts and reports so that we can see what is happening.
