Mayor of Whangārei

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Whangarei District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I believe that Whangārei deserves strong, fair leadership to guide the council to work for the betterment of the district. This leadership comes in many forms, like bringing decision-makers together, being present, having knowledge, listening, guiding the council staff, and working with central government in Wellington. It will be my job as mayor to bring the council together to focus our strategy on what is important for ratepayers.

About me

I am a city councillor, local farmer, and I have formed many strong relationships over my time working for the community and says these relationships are the key to getting things done.

My priorities
  1. Value for ratepayers
  2. Strong communities in a family friendly, safe environment.
  3. More and better jobs
