New Zealand’s economy weathered the Covid-19 pandemic and its aftermath better than most, but that success came at the cost of higher inflation, exacerbated by global supply shortages and other factors. The Reserve Bank has tightened monetary policy in a bid to restrain spending and price rises, pushing the economy into recession for the first time since 2010, excluding the Covid-19 lockdown period.
