Terms of service
The Policy tool is free for personal and private use. But commercial users are expected to pay to use the tool.
1. Overview: By using the Policy tool (policy.thespinoff.co.nz), or by using Policy Limited Content, you are deemed to agree to these terms and conditions of use without qualification.
1.1. These terms and conditions apply to use of all content published on the Policy tool.
1.2. By accessing the Policy tool you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.
2. Ownership of copyright: Policy Limited invests heavily in building and maintaining a source of policy information and asserts copyright.
2.1. Policy Limited owns copyright in all content as it is published on policy.thespinoff.co.nz, and will exercise its rights to protect that content under to these terms and conditions and the Copyright Act 1994.
2.2. Policy Limited Content includes but is not limited to all aggregated content, text, images, graphics, logos, and other material appearing on policy.thespinoff.co.nz, as well as all applicable copyrights, patents, trademarks, trade secrets, trade names, logos, and other intellectual property rights thereto, excluding sponsor marks ("Policy Limited Content").
3. General limitation of use: Policy Limited is committed to open access and public interest journalism and therefore uses an ‘invisible paywall system’.
3.1. Policy Limited Content is licensed freely to personal and private users.
3.2. Personal and private users may read, view, download, circulate, reproduce and distribute Policy Limited Content provided that the Policy tool is attributed (where applicable) as the source of the content, and provided the purpose of such use has no commercial purposes or ends.
3.3. Policy Limited Content may not be used for any other purpose without the prior written consent of Policy Limited.
4. Commercial use of Policy Limited Content expressly restricted: Policy Limited supports licensed commercial use of its content.
4.1. Unlicensed commercial use of Policy Limited Content is expressly prohibited by Policy Limited.
4.2. Commercial users include companies, organisations, institutions, partnerships, government departments, associations and societies, trusts and other entities, whether registered or unregistered, private or public, and whether for profit or not for profit that use Policy Limited Content in any professional capacity.
4.3. ‘Use’ encompasses, but is not limited to, downloading, sharing, e-mailing, direct linking, copying, reading, extracting, scraping, selling content, by employees, workers, agents or automated devices, or anything else whatsoever that could be reasonably held to violate Policy Limited’s copyright pursuant to applicable copyright law and Policy Limited’s limitations of use.
4.4. Commercial users are invited to obtain end user licences from Policy Limited to legitimise use of Policy Limited Content.
4.5. Commercial users can enquire about obtaining an end user licence for using Policy Limited Content by e-mailing email@example.com.
