Auckland Council

Manukau Ward
The Auckland Council makes strategic decisions for Auckland on public transport, urban planning, environmental protection and other big issues. The council provides funding to local boards to provide public services in their areas, and manages council-controlled organisations which provide infrastructure, such as public transport, water and sewerage. The councillors and mayor make up the governing body, which shares governance of Auckland Council with the 21 local boards. The governing body is made up of 20 councillors plus the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in Auckland). Two councillors will be elected from your ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Auckland Council election.

Why I'm standing

I grew up with the vision of Manukau as the face of the future. I still believe in that vision. Manukau is bursting with talented, creative, vibrant diverse communities. However, the pandemic revealed many of the struggles that some of our families face. The digital divide isolated and disadvantaged our most vulnerable. I will be a strong voice for Manukau on the governing body, advocating for equity of resources and funding for Manukau.

About me

I have been an elected member since 2013 and a local board chair from 2016 to April 2021. I understand the 'beast of council' and its complexities. I have built strong relationships with governing body members, local boards, council-controlled organisations, mana whenua and council officers. These relationships will prove invaluable to get resourcing and projects across the line for Manukau. I have extensive governance experience, legal knowledge and dispute resolution skills – all will be useful at the governing body.

My priorities
  1. Accelerate digital equity by championing a policy for Tāmaki Makaurau, beginning with Manukau.
  2. Support fare-free public transport to provide more transport choices for Manukau residents.
  3. Commit to equitable funding of the Manukau local boards to address decades of underinvestment in the ward.
