Auckland Council

Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Ward
The Auckland Council makes strategic decisions for Auckland on public transport, urban planning, environmental protection and other big issues. The council provides funding to local boards to provide public services in their areas, and manages council-controlled organisations which provide infrastructure, such as public transport, water and sewerage. The councillors and mayor make up the governing body, which shares governance of Auckland Council with the 21 local boards. The governing body is made up of 20 councillors plus the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in Auckland). One councillor will be elected from your ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Auckland Council election.

Why I'm standing

I love Auckland and the community I live in here in Maungakiekie Tāmaki. I want to do my bit to make it even better for future generations. Also, having the platform of councillor helps to effect positive change for our communities, eg I'm able to advocate for support for the homeless, support vaccination rollout to get us out of lockdown faster, keep us safe, and advocate to ensure we don't gentrify our area.

About me

I'm a resident of 16 years, know the issues we face, was on the local board for seven years, and served on business associations and environmental forums. I have governance experience, skills and experience as a lawyer, consumer rights advocate and in community engagement for NZ Red Cross. I'm active in the community, set up the local safety patrol and am on the board for a local social service provider. I love and care about our city and our communities.

My priorities
  1. Infrastructure to match the growth we are seeing, including effective public transport options.
  2. Address climate action through our communities, eg behaviour change to try other ways to travel.
  3. Support the post Covid-19 recovery for our communities and businesses, ensuring council is there.
