Mayor of Buller District

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing

I believe I have established the necessary relationships with partners to ensure a successful rebuild and future plan is developed and funded for Buller. I have a cool head and strategic mindset that will ensure Buller finally addresses legacy issues and plans for the next generation. This also requires a collaborative approach with elected members and partner agencies and the community. Look forward and be positive.

About me

I was born in Buller and have been honoured to serve as mayor. We have had extraordinary challenges over this term and I was fortunate to be leading a great team that has responded to immediate needs and has built a long term strategy into the recovery. I encourage and welcome diversity in the district. I have shifted the dial of transparency and approachability in local government while showing a clear and positive strategic vision.

My priorities
  1. Delivery of a multi-tool approach to Westport flood risk mitigation.
  2. Ensure Buller interests are protected and opportunities captured in government reforms.
  3. Ensure we continue to maximise external funding to aid affordability to ratepayers.
