Mayor of Chatham Islands

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Chatham Islands Territory Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

We need to keep building our island's future where everyone matters, and we need to do it together.

About me

I have been a long term councillor and have completed my first term as mayor. I have excellent skills, working experience and knowledge that has enabled many changes over the last three years. I have learnt to lead in an inclusive way and have positive working relationships with many in the community, including council management, staff and councillors. I now chair many committees, including Chatham Islands regional leadership group and Chatham Islands stakeholder leadership group.

My priorities
  1. Ensuring our island's governance is sustainable for the next 30 years.
  2. Strengthening our island's economy through value adding to our fishing, farming and tourism.
  3. Supporting and enabling island businesses to be viable. Provide housing and Living Wages for staff.
