Coastal Ward
The Christchurch City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 16 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the city). One councillor will be elected from the Coastal ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Support establishing a citizens' panel and other innovative approaches to improve local democracy and engagement.

    Support changing electoral system to Single Transferable Vote and have councillors elected at large across community board areas.

    Empower residents and community boards to equitably participate in financial decision-making.

  • Ensure transparency around information, providing residents opportunities to input into how consultation processes proceed from the outset.

    Connect with the community and businesses in their environments to hear first hand the issues and passions that are important to them.

    Foster relationships and partner with mana whenua. Create a culture that values and respects all residents, council staff and elected representatives.
