Why I'm standing

I am passionate about our city being the best, worried about its often poor image and lost opportunities to celebrate and promote its kindness, creativity, innovation, natural and cultural richness. We are facing multiple emergencies across the world and we have to take urgent action to address these locally and globally. We need experienced, visionary thinking to steer our way through this. I have a proven record and desire to make a difference.

About me

Schooled in Fendalton and graduated doctor of ecology (the foundation of our existence – and convergent with economics and Matauranga Māori). I've experienced every continent, and worked in alpine, subantarctic, urban, vineyard and farmed landscapes. I have been instrumental in conserving wetlands and woodlands; currently teaching at UC and LU. I've received multiple awards (ONZM), and am experienced in governance of trusts, societies, and government advisory groups. I'm listening, inclusive and collaborative with all parties.

My priorities
  1. Rebrand Otautahi-Christchurch as kind, inclusive, nature-connected, enterprising and welcoming.
  2. Future-proof Otautahi – addressing climate change, biodiversity loss, economy, social cohesion.
  3. Energise Otautahi by connecting communities, enterprise, universities, urban walks, music and youth.
