Mayor of Grey District

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing

I aim to lead our society's transition beyond the destructive insanity that is money and into the integrity and opportunities presented by adopting a science and resource based economy. An economy based on the needs and intrinsic values of humans, in harmony with nature and the biosphere.

About me

I am a keen volunteer and community member. I am a Lions Club Secretary and Chair our Community Hall Committee. I have a lifetime of experience in airline aviation as a licenced engineer and airline pilot. I farm at Lake Rotoiti and teach aero engineering. I am very motivated in the arenas of social, environmental and sustainability transformation, clearly seeing huge opportunity for success in all these areas.

My priorities
  1. Establish trust and cooperative relationships with new colleagues and the wider electorate.
  2. Introduce opportunities for wide-ranging discussion and consultation with all societal participants.
  3. Develop transformation/transition pathways with the whole community to move into the new paradigm.
