Why I'm standing

Horizons areas of interest mirror my student days and first employment as an earth sciences lecturer. Having completed seventeen years at the community board and district council level of governance, representation on Horizons is a complementary position where I can contribute to the betterment of our region and district. I am a long-term Whanganui resident, understand the district and believe that I can deliver for it.

About me

Following eleven years (five as chair) on the Whanganui Rural Community Board, I have just completed six years as the chair of a Whanganui District Council committee. Previously, as chair of the New Zealand Grains Council, I represented the nation's arable farmers at a national and international level, was a member of the Foundation for Arable Research Establishment Committee and first board, and assisted in the establishment of the Arable Food Industry Council.

My priorities
  1. Promotion of adaptation to climate change in recognition that this is an existential threat.
  2. Retaining and improving indigenous biodiversity in recognition of the massive daily loss of species.
  3. Improving water quality and quantity in recognition of how essential to flourishing life this is.
