Mayor of Hutt City
The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the city and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. Why I'm standing
I want Lower Hutt to be the best place in New Zealand to grow up, raise a family and thrive. We have a lot going for us, but it's vital that we front up to the big challenges around climate change, growth and infrastructure. Ultimately I want our kids and grand-kids to become the future guardians of a city where they see opportunities over burdens.
About me
I have been involved in local government for 12 years, and offer experience and proven leadership in fronting up to big issues. I don't plan and think in a three year election cycle, I look to where our city needs to be in 10, 20, 30 years time. I'm heavily involved in my local community, and even as mayor still manage to get out and volunteer to referee club rugby.
My priorities
- Continue to focus on getting the basics right. Infrastructure investment is vital.
- A climate resilience lens needs to go over everything we do. I'm committed to this approach.
- Advocate for the future of Hutt Hospital. I will fight tooth and nail to keep health services local.
