Masterton/Whakaoriori General Ward
The Masterton District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of eight councillors and the mayor. Four councillors will be elected from the Masterton/Whakaoriori ward. The other councillors will be elected from other wards or by all voters in the district. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Continue to support Aratoi arts centre. Consult with Golden Shears on stadium upgrade.

    Expand library on present site with existing allocation of funds.

    Preserve our open spaces, parks and recreational lakes.

  • Acknowledge and support cultural events organised by local ethnic groups.

    Encourage development of a world class sporting facility in the locality.

  • Ensure an active and continuous asset management plan is in place to maintain and enhance all community assets.

    Support community led events and initiatives that enhance our town and promote the wellbeing of our community.

    Ensure processes are in place to maintain the safety, health and wellbeing of our community.

  • Encourage more events in the town paid for by organisers. Would bring in revenue and raise profile for the town.

    Carry out a feasibility study for an off leash dog park. This will encourage good dog ownership, more sociable dogs and less issues.

    Look into a youth only cafe in town where they can meet and enjoy a safe environment. Encourage youth leaders to develop.

  • Look to upgrade, modernize – and extend – the current Library on its present site.

    Endeavour to reduce entry fees to the recreation centre swimming facilities particularly for children over school holidays.
