Mayor of Matamata-Piako

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing

I care deeply about our district and want to ensure that we have a council that keeps doing the things our community relies upon us to do, like keep the district's waters infrastructure in top shape, and plan for the future, while we challenge the current government's centralisation agenda through reforms like the Three Waters.

About me

I have been an elected member for six years and through my commitment to the role have a good understanding of all facets of council business. I have developed a strong sense of community through long term active involvement in community organisations encompassing health, sport and education including life memberships with Matamata Netball and the Walton Tennis Club. I have also completed governance training and currently chair the national Agrecovery Foundation.

My priorities
  1. Improve the character and vibrancy of our town centres to encourage people to visit and stay a while.
  2. Facilitate growth by having adequate land zoned for industrial, residential etc.
  3. Maintain resilient water supplies and waste water plants and continue with renewals and upgrades.
