Mayor of Nelson

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the city and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Nelson City Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I have always stood very clear on my principles. I have been very consistent, dependable, working hard on championing the needs of the Nelson community as your proven elected official. I will get Nelson back on its feet and moving forward again. Reintroducing genuine engagement and trust with our community. Ensuring we have an affordable, and a great place to grow families and enable local businesses to thrive.

About me

With nine years experience, and the only candidate holding Nelson City Council multi-portfolio chairmanship governance experience, I come as a mayor ready to hit the ground running to get this city back on its feet. Having formed huge relationships with our community, commercial leaders, iwi and organisations across the top of the south, we can move this greater region forward to ensure Nelson has a strong voice to ensure central government doesn't overlook Nelson's diverse interests.

My priorities
  1. Reprioritise our spending on flood protection, stormwater, core infrastructure and services investment.
  2. Keep debt and rates affordable. Ensure Nelson is the best place to raise a family. Not price residents out.
  3. Focus on mental, physical and environmental well-being of our city and people.
