Pātea Community Board

The Pātea Community Board represents your local community and advocates to South Taranaki District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of five members: four members elected by voters, and one councillor from the South Taranaki District Council.  This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Pātea Community Board election.

From parks and libraries to museums and art galleries, councils can be a key supporter of sporting, recreational and cultural events that bring communities to life. Community facilities, including sports grounds and town halls, are often owned and run by councils.

  • Establish activities that have real meaning to those that are on the ground eg a community garden.

    Implement bilingual signs in Pātea. We need to reflect all our cultures in this space.

    Upgrade the skatepark. Focus on what is important to our local youth.

  • Ensure all public reserves are kept up to a tidy standard, including parks, pools and playgrounds.

    Ensure there are not too many liquor outlets close together.

    Assist communities to hold festivities for all ethnicities and age groups.

  • Reduce the number of permits for liquor licensing.

    Improve facilities at the beach campgrounds.
