Why I'm standing

The representation review brought about change in the structure of council providing an opportunity to advocate for a rural ward. This was successful and I was motivated to stand for election. Urban councillors have their attention purely focused on their voter base so by having a dedicated rural ward councillor means someone is at the table to ensure matters affecting rural are considered in the decision making. One voice does make a difference.

About me

I am motivated to represent the diverse nature of our rural community through past governance experience as rural community board chair and believe that experience makes me the best representative. I have established relationships in council essential to advocating for better funding for projects. Living in Waikite Valley for the past 46 years gives me a good insight to rural matters, having had many roles in and around the community and other organisations

My priorities
  1. Introduce a public forum at council for locals to speak direct to councillors.
  2. Repurpose the Economic & Development targeted rate to better align with benefit to rural issues.
  3. Argue for better level of service for our rural villages to align with their urban counterparts.
