Mayor of Southland

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing

I believe this is not a time for a new mayor. The reforms presently underway continue to erode trust in our communities. With respect, there is not time to train up a new mayor as our country, our district is moving forward with haste post Covid. The connections and partnerships I have made over the past nine years as mayor are important.

About me

I have proved that I can respond, I listen, more importantly "I Hear" and am a full time committed proud mayor of Murihiku Southland. Those in the role know this is not and cannot be a part time or glide time position.

My priorities
  1. Continue to lead while guiding a knowledgeable and confident mayor for 2025.
  2. Monitor the Three Waters legislation.
  3. Continue to be a 24/7 hard working people's mayor.
