Stewart Island/Rakiura Community Board

The Stewart Island/Rakiura Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Southland District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of seven members: six members elected by voters, and one councillor from the Southland District Council. There will be no election this year because fewer candidates stood than there are positions. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Stewart Island/Rakiura Community Board election.

Transport

Helping communities get from A to B is a key responsibility of local government, from making sure the buses run on time to providing car parking and walking and cycling paths. Whether public transport is the responsibility of the regional or local council depends on where you are in the country. Local councils also own 87% of New Zealand’s roads.
