Transport

Helping communities get from A to B is a key responsibility of local government, from making sure the buses run on time to providing car parking and walking and cycling paths. Whether public transport is the responsibility of the regional or local council depends on where you are in the country. Local councils also own 87% of New Zealand’s roads.

  • Keep the Thames Connector bus service running and work with Waikato Regional Council to look at expanding this to include a Coromandel to Thames bus service.

Develop additional walking and cycling paths and tracks in Thames to boost the local economy and complement the Hauraki Rail Trail.

  • Advocate for increased public transport across the district, particularly for a service from Coromandel to Thames.

Advocate and encourage more cycleways, including the Kauaerange Valley cycleway proposed in the 2021-31 Long Term Plan.

Be a strong presence at the regional transport forum to be able to advocate for changes to speed limits on the state highway network.

  • Support for connector buses and public transport growth, walking and cycling and support for health and disability related mobility needs.

  • Connector bus service to be maintained. Walking and cycling to be expanded.

Airport master plan to be implemented ASAP. Maritime planning to take advantage of Kopu marine development.

Full roading network evaluation for upgrading.

  • Eliminating outdated, unsafe one way bridges. Allowing easier cheaper traffic flow and greater awareness of what actually simply works!

Support growth by implementation of transparent plans and aspirations of those involved. 'Knowing' what works for one, must for all!

Install traffic plans and roading infrastructure that works, by eliminating foolishness and rules thought up by those who only think they know.
