Climate change poses a huge challenge for communities as more frequent extreme weather events require us to rethink how we live and where. Local authorities are at the forefront of efforts to respond, with responsibilities for environmental planning and regulation, as well as civil defence. Many councils have plans to reduce emissions in their area and are working to help their communities adapt to a warming world.

Review and analyse council statutory responsibilities required under the RMA and apply to the current climate change challenges we face.
Strategically set council targets that support the carbon neutral goal by 2050 that align with emission budgets 2022-2025, 2026-2030, 2031-2035.
Collaborate with farmers to upskill and grow civil defence advisors within the rural communities including wider key decision-making roles.
