Auckland Council

Howick Ward
The Auckland Council makes strategic decisions for Auckland on public transport, urban planning, environmental protection and other big issues. The council provides funding to local boards to provide public services in their areas, and manages council-controlled organisations which provide infrastructure, such as public transport, water and sewerage. The councillors and mayor make up the governing body, which shares governance of Auckland Council with the 21 local boards. The governing body is made up of 20 councillors plus the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in Auckland). two councillors will be elected from your ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Auckland Council election.

Why I'm standing

I am standing for Auckland Council to change how the city is run. I know locals are frustrated with lack of vision, progress and accountability. I believe we are facing intensification, population growth and an uncertain economy. I feel not enough is being done to address wasteful spending, congestion, poor communication or climate change. I want representatives who understand their communities, investing time to listen and respond to residents, not just at election time.

About me

I am a problem solver with an analytical mind. For nearly 20 years I have worked in business improvement in large organisations. I have led teams eliminating waste, improving service delivery and cutting through bureaucracy. As a member of the NZ Institute of Directors, I am passionate about good governance and utilising my skills and experience to help community and business.

My priorities
  1. Increase transparency of council finances and decision-making so that people have trust.
  2. Re-shape the budgeting process to ensure community facilities and local boards are funded to deliver.
  3. Deliver Flat Bush community centre, library and pool/leisure centre as residents have waited long enough.
