The Bay of Plenty Regional Council makes decisions about managing resources in the region, such as air, water, soil and the coastline. It also carries out plant and pest control, helps prepare for natural disasters, and is involved in regional transport. The council is made up of 14 councillors. Councillors are elected to represent constituencies (areas in the region). two councillors will be elected from the Rotorua constituency. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Continue and sustain pest eradication programmes for forests and waterways including enforcement and compliance, eg golden clam.

    Establish and action a plan to fix the diversion wall and weir on Lake Rotoiti as a long-term fix to support health and water quality.

  • Enhance biodiversity by supporting pest and weed management programmes, restoring native habitats and protecting vulnerable ecosystems.

    Improve environmental monitoring and reporting so communities have transparent, accessible information on air quality and biodiversity health.

    Strengthen enforcement and compliance measures to reduce pollution, minimise waste and ensure environmental standards are adhered to.

  • Maintain tangible support for clean air and water initiatives across the region.
