Mayor of Central Hawke's Bay

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Central Hawke's Bay District Council mayoral election.

TRUSTED AND PROVEN CHB LEADERSHIP

Why I'm standing

We have a complex time ahead, politically, structurally and financially and our community needs strong, experienced and proven leadership so we can ride it out. Together we have worked through extraordinary growth, uncovered infrastructure challenges and survived natural disaster. We have also rebuilt council from the ground up to be a strong, well respected and efficient business that we need to benefit from now that our households are under such financial pressure.

About me

I have three terms of experience as Mayor of CHB, as well as governance roles regionally and nationally. My business background, in both corporate and entrepreneurial worlds bring a depth of experience that has been vital to learning to navigate the complexities of local government. In particular, I have worked intensively on water reform for several years, bringing regional and national knowledge to making our new Water CCO as successful as possible.

My priorities
  1. Accelerate transition to the new Hawke's Bay Water Services CCO for more affordable water for CHB.
  2. Investigate further regional opportunities for efficient and affordable delivery to benefit CHB.
  3. Continue to prepare for future growth to support our thriving vision for our grandchildren.
