Mayor of Christchurch

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the city and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Improve the health of rivers, streams, estuary and harbours.

    Plant one million trees and other plants across the city and Banks Peninsula in the first term as mayor.

    Support native bush regeneration efforts across Banks Peninsula.

  • Adopt a council policy of planting food-producing plants, such as fruit trees, and plants that have healing properties for medical use.

    Increase accountability for water by using Government debt free money for building infrastructure long term.

    Increase accountability of internal and external information, both historic and up to date, to get better decisions and performance.

  • Create more recycling capabilities, including converting plastic into fuel to reduce plastic waste.

    Create wildlife sanctuaries with predator fencing.
