Featherston Community Board

The Featherston Community Board represents your local community and advocates to South Wairarapa District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of six members: four members elected by voters, and two members from the South Wairarapa District Council.  This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Featherston Community Board election.

Why I'm standing

I think Featherston is just fabulous. I want Paetūmōkai to thrive and prosper and for our tamariki to be proud of the place they call home. I believe we have so much talent but also many challenges. Nāu rourou, nāku rourou, ka ora ai te iwi – with your contribution and my contribution the people will thrive. That is why I am running for FCB.

About me

I am a people person, a networker and a good listener. I have a background in the cultural sector, work in museums and libraries, Treaty education and community engagement, which is an asset to the FCB. I have experience chairing meetings, organising volunteers and advocating for students as the former president of the Postgrad Students' Association at Victoria University. I am passionate about collaboration, consultation and co-design, bringing community ideas into fruition. I volunteer at Booktown, community garden and Matariki.

My priorities
  1. Empower food security through expanding the community garden, crop swap and berm planting.
  2. Co-design community events that bring locals together, attract tourists and create work for youth.
  3. Start conversations and field trips with mana whenua to learn about local histories and the Treaty.
