Tairāwhiti General Ward
The Gisborne District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 13 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). eight councillors will be elected from the Tairāwhiti ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper.     Investigate a regulation holiday or similar incentives for small and startup businesses.

    Work with regional wealth holders to increase higher education opportunities and placements aligned to emergent industries.

  • Collaborate with local community groups to grow the arts industry for tourism and keep youth employed and at home.

    Collaborate with organisations to create property opportunities for emerging businesses through an innovative rent-free programme.

    Re-establish the train network from Te Tairāwhiti to Napier Port.

  • Work with Gisborne Hospital and local business to incentivise additional health staff into the region to support the existing health sector.

    Work with local schools to build a network of out of region opportunities that allow young people to learn, gain experience then return.

  • Commit to doing everything the council can to encourage new businesses and support old businesses.
