Hastings District Council
The Hastings District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 15 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). seven councillors will be elected from the Hastings-Havelock North ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing
As a disabled woman raised in Hastings, I've been fortunate to grow up in a supportive community. Now, I'm ready to give back and bring a diverse voice to the council table. I'm passionate about this city and its people, and I want to help make Hastings vibrant and inclusive once again – a place where everyone feels seen, heard and valued. It's time for fresh perspectives and meaningful change.
About me
I bring over 30 years of experience in the health and disability sector, both locally and nationally. My background includes proven leadership and governance, from managing teams to chairing committees. I understand the demands of working within complex bureaucratic systems and bring a strategic, visionary approach to problem-solving. I'm a quick learner who isn't afraid to ask tough questions or challenge the status quo to drive meaningful change.
My priorities
- Dedicate time to learning what matters to people in the community and what is important to them.
- Dedicate time to listening to community stories to understand what works, what does not and how to do better.
- Commit to advocating for community voices and representing them at the council table.
