Mayor of Hastings

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Hastings District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

Born and raised here, I've been a voice and proven advocate for Hastings on the council for 25 years. This is more than where I live; it's where my heart is. I have a proven track record of getting things done. My priorities: strengthening our local economy, reining in council spending, supporting local businesses, protecting our land and water, and making Hastings a great place to live.

About me

I've been a local business owner for over 25 years. I have been actively involved in many local organisations - chair of Sport HB, co-chair Jarrod Cunningham Youth Trust, Mates4life workplace suicide prevention programme. Experience counts and I have it in spades.

My priorities
  1. Deliver affordable homes by thoughtfully increasing medium density in key areas.
  2. Cultivate a thriving local economy by supporting Hastings' core industries and attracting new businesses.
  3. Protect our precious fertile lands and water by championing sustainable growth and minimising waste.
