Horizons Regional Council

Tararua General Constituency
The Horizons Regional Council is the regional council for the Manawatū-Whanganui region. It makes decisions about managing resources in the region, such as air, water, soil and the coastline. It also carries out plant and pest control, helps prepare for natural disasters, and is involved in regional transport. The council is made up of 14 councillors. Councillors are elected to represent constituencies (areas in the region). one councillor will be elected from the Tararua constituency. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing

I have represented the Tararua District in previous roles. Becoming a Horizons Councillor would be a natural progression in serving the community. I have established valued relationships with community members, staff and councillors. If I am elected, my connections will help the Tararua District maintain a strong profile. Having historical knowledge is important when setting future direction.

About me

I have been a long time advocate for the Tararua region and have an extensive knowledge of local issues and concerns. I have a proven ability to bring different groups, organisations and individuals together to form a position going forward.

My priorities
  1. Continue funding for Sustainable Land Use Initiative programme that has demonstrated positive long-term outcomes.
  2. Adopt water quality targets that provide a holistic view incorporating transparent economic and social impacts data.
  3. Ensure pest plants and animals management plan addresses Old Mans Beard on a regional equitable scale.
