Utilities and services
Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

Ensure local water is done well and council-controlled organisations remain committed to the best local solutions with controlled spending and no further wasted money on dreams.
Improve rubbish and recycling by expanding kerbside collection, boosting community recycling and cutting landfill through smarter waste solutions.
Strengthen animal and street services by enforcing fair dog licensing, improving animal control and keeping streets clean and safe for all residents.
Continue work with Three Waters to ensure ratepayers do not have increased costs.
Review supply agreements to reduce costs for rubbish, recycling and street cleaning.
