Kāpiti Coast Māori Ward
The Kāpiti Coast District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of ten councillors and the mayor. one councillor will be elected from the Kāpiti Coast Māori ward. The other councillors will be elected from other wards or by all voters in the district. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper.   • Cooperate with Metlink to review adequacy of current and future transport needs based on potential increased population scenarios.

    Review current transport infrastructure in terms of future population projections.

    Review the adequacy of current airport operations.

  • Work with Greater Wellington Regional Council to increase bus routes and frequency, especially for rural and coastal communities.

    Offer discounted public transport for children, students and Community Services Card holders.

    Create safe, connected cycleways and well-lit footpaths linking schools, town centres and train stations.

  • Support Kāpiti Coast District Council to become a unitary authority council to bring transport decisions back to local decision makers.
