Why I'm standing

I believe the current financial performance of Selwyn District Council is unsustainable. The level of borrowing is climbing. I see little visibility of operational costs and how these are composed. Many benchmarks within the MIA reports show that Selwyn District Council is at the high end of each metric, including borrowing, staffing and rates increases. I believe there needs to be a rigorous investigation and an opening of the books to adequately explain where the costs lie and why.

About me

I am a retired engineer. I have worked for Christchurch International Airport on mechanical systems and Three Waters services, including in the design and construction of the Dakota Park development. I also worked for Christchurch City Council within facilities, coordinating earthquake repairs and upgrades and compiling 30-year long-term plans based on asset management principles. I am a resident of Arthur's Pass, working with Selwyn District Council on the local water supply. I bring a range of practical skills to the MCB table.

My priorities
  1. Open up the books to identify any operational cost-saving opportunities or expenditure deferrals.
  2. Review the works programme to assess necessity and potential impacts of deferral on Tawera Malvern residents.
  3. Consult with communities to determine local issues and present these to Selwyn District Council.
