Paekākāriki Community Board

The Paekākāriki Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Kapiti Coast District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of five members: four members elected by voters, and one member from the Kapiti Coast District Council.  This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Paekākāriki Community Board election.

Why I'm standing

Growing up in a small marae settlement taught me the significance of what community is. After living in Paekākāriki for 36 years, I have seen a lot of changes, some challenging such as the housing crisis and some great. I have also seen this community grow and evolve. It is an amazing place to live.

About me

I am eighth generation from Kāpiti Island. My great-grandparents were land owners here in Paekākāriki until our extended whānau were moved on through the Reservations Act. Like my Haumia cousins, I have a pretty good grasp on historical events that happened here. I am also aware of issues we face now. I would be proud to work with and represent our hapū and iwi here.

My priorities
  1. Focus on people and the environment, which have always been my main kaupapa.
  2. Work with Haumia, Toa, Āhuru Mōwai and Paekākāriki Housing Trust to support locals who are being forced to leave.
  3. Prepare the community for environmental events because climate action is urgent.
