Raumati Community Board

The Raumati Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Kapiti Coast District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of five members: four members elected by voters, and one member from the Kapiti Coast District Council.  This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Local governments play a central role in protecting the environment, reducing waste and safeguarding biodiversity. The worsening state of New Zealand’s lakes and rivers is a major challenge for local councils, which work with regional councils in the management of water resources in their area.

  • Ensure regional and Kāpiti council support programmes and community initiatives to protect and enhance the coastline and waterways.

    Support community-led predator-free initiatives and help mobilise council, regional council and others to support and coordinate these efforts.

    Support and promote council and community initiatives to reduce waste to landfills through recycling and composting.

  • Empower the community to protect Kāpiti's biodiversity and pest control through public projects and provide support for private landowners.

    Invest in flood prevention while restoring awa and fish habitats alongside mana whenua and the wider community.

    Reduce waste and landfill emissions, promote sustainable practices and plan for waste as a long-term challenge.

  • Support the elimination of fluoride in our water. It is unfair that both Paekākāriki and Ōtaki do not but we do. NZ Human Rights.

    Support predator free Raumati as treasurer of this group. Eliminate rats, mice and other rodents to increase native bird life in our area.

    Support waste minimisation as treasurer of RS Repair Cafe including repair, recycle and reuse.

  • Encourage the council and community groups to plant trees that overhang waterways to provide shade and help plant and marine life thrive.

    Plant native wildflowers along unused areas of land to encourage bees and birds to visit.

    Encourage the council to bring back can and bottle recycling where donations can be exchanged for money to help keep New Zealand green and tidy.

  • Urgently review the proposed EcoReef sea wall project that will destroy a council beach reserve in Raumati.

    Encourage initiatives to improve water quality and protect rivers and the sea.

    Continue to work with schools, community groups and hapū and iwi to support education to improve the taiao (environment).
