Climate change poses a huge challenge for communities as more frequent extreme weather events require us to rethink how we live and where. Local authorities are at the forefront of efforts to respond, with responsibilities for environmental planning and regulation, as well as civil defence. Many councils have plans to reduce emissions in their area and are working to help their communities adapt to a warming world.

Many councils have plans to reduce emissions in their area and are working to help their communities adapt to a warming world.
Push for low carbon public transport options, especially rail, to connect the Hurunui to the main centres in the region.
Support cleantech development in the Hurunui region.
Support the development of shared office hubs to better allow locals to interact with their offices in the main centres without travelling.
State that climate change is not included in the terms of reference for the South Ward Committee as it is an issue handled by council.
