Mayor of Timaru
The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. What sets me apart is proven leadership through tough times navigating reforms, driving investment, and advocating strongly for our community. Timaru deserves leadership that delivers. Under my leadership, Timaru helped shape the new Three Waters legislation, ensuring local control of our assets. As chair of the Canterbury Mayoral Forum, I've built strong government relationships to secure investment and push for fairer regional funding. Experience provides assurance.
My priorities
- Continue the reform process currently underway to deliver best cost for ratepayers.
- Deliver on priorities of community through the long-term plan.
- Deliver water changes to maintain affordability for the consumer and maintain capital delivery.
