Deputy Mayor - Waimate District Council

Why I'm standing

After spending many years as deputy mayor, I have had a lot of time to consider some of the ways I could do things differently if I had the privilege, as mayor, to lead the development of our key council documents, drive strategy, establish council committees, reinvigorate our communications and build a governance team that harnesses all the members individual skillsets. It is time to reinvigorate and empower our community.

About me

I've lived in Waimate since I was five years old. I've raised my children here, worked alongside many locals and served our district for nearly 15 years on council—12 of those as deputy mayor. I know my community. I know its strengths, its challenges and most importantly, I know how much potential we have when we work together. If elected, I will undertake the mayoralty as a full-time role, because our district deserves nothing less.

My priorities
  1. Undertake a rating review and source alternative revenue, as the community is struggling.
  2. Protect local autonomy and democracy by promoting local solutions and ideas for local problems.
  3. Ensure fit-for-purpose and well-maintained core infrastructure to allow the community to thrive.
