Why I'm standing

My families' service to Southland's local bodies ranges from Chamber of Commerce through to creative enhancement. Political debate remains part and parcel of family gatherings. I bring a diverse career portfolio from my 50 years in West Harbour from solo-parent to regional manager with 25 subcontractors, teacher, journalist, researcher and sole trader specialising in permaculture. Being fiercely community minded, I am a good listener, non-partisan decision maker, seeking and acting on expert advice.

About me

I have served on the St Leonard School Board of Trustees, and am current chair of the Deborah Bay Residents' Association, acting on local issues and recently securing an ORC grant to eradicate sycamores in Deborah Bay. Having been a landlord, I understand the serious issue of slum tenancies and homelessness caused by inflationary house prices. Understanding the importance of equity for social cohesion, I have written submissions to local bodies and to central government.

My priorities
  1. Focus on community enhancement by providing opportunities for vulnerable residents to help themselves.
  2. Celebrate the unique creative identity as an iconic drawcard for visitors.
  3. Establish a West Harbour Matariki equitably featuring shared histories and current creativity.
