Whakatāne District Council
The Whakatāne District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of ten councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). one councillor will be elected from the Toi ki Uta ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. I am standing because I believe in equity for all of our communities. Equity in representation, services provided and a voice at the table.
About me
I am standing because I have worked in leadership and governance roles for 25+ years and have skills at the board table, I have experience in general management, strategy design and implementation, financial management and risk mitigation. I'm a member of the Institute of Directors and currently on the board of Sport BOP and Tuhoe Fisheries Quota Limited. My heart says I have an obligation to give back to my whanau, hapū and iwi.
My priorities
- Ensure rates are sustainable.
- Introduce accountability to council cost controls and projects.
- Articulate for rural communities.
